The Economics Department offers a B.A. and M.A. in Economics. We are a medium-sized department with approximately 12 full time faculty members. We strive for excellence in teaching and also have a wide variety of research interests in various applied fields in economics.

Special Announcements

Economics Workshop: Prof. Venoo Kakar (SF State) with Anton Li, a graduate student, will offer a workshop "Beamer in Lyx" on Friday, October 23, noon-1pm, in HSS 147. Everybody is welcome to attend!

Position Available: San Francisco State University, Department of Economics invites applicants for an Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor position in Economics with a specialization in Big Data and Health Economics beginning August 2016. For more details, visit the position announcement page.

Graduation applications: Graduation applications are due on September 25, 2015. Follow these graduation application steps to submit the application.

Economics Computer and Tutoring Labs: Fall 2015 hours of operations for the Economics computer lab (pdf) and the Economics tutoring lab (pdf) have been posted.

Economics Department Graduation Celebration 2015: Economics Department and the Economics Student Association (ESA) invite you to a BBQ-Picnic on Saturday, May 9, 2015, 12:00 – 4:00 pm, in Lake Merced Park (Harding Road, off of Skyline Blvd. --- close to SFSU Campus). Please join us for an afternoon of food, friends and fun! A BBQ lunch will be provided.  However, if you would like to bring a dish to share, you are most welcome to. RSVP to by Thursday, May 9 and advise of how many people are attending.

Economics Seminar Series: Prof. Kshipra Jain (University of Rajasthan, India) will present her work "Financial literacy and its linkage with wellbeing of elderly: Evidence from Urban India" on Thursday, May 7, 10:30 am – 12 noon, in LIB 244. Everybody is welcome to attend!

Department of Economics Scholarships: Economics majors are welcome to apply for Ramona K. First Scholarship in Economics (RKF application page), Don W. Scoble Scholarship in Economics (DWS application page) and George Feliz Memorial Scholarship in Economics (GF application page). Applications are due on April 17, 2015.

Betty Blecha Memorial Distinguished Speaker Lecture: Join us for the Inaugural Betty Blecha Memorial Distinguished Speaker Lecture featuring Carl E. Walsh, Distinguished Professor of Economics at UC Santa Cruz and visiting scholar at the Federal Reserve Bank in San Francisco. Date and time: Wednesday, April 30, 2014, 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Seven Hills Conference Center. Admission is free.
